What makes the Alpha Pets bags different from other biodegradable poo bags?
Our Alpha Pets pet waste bags are 100% biodegradable AND compostable (via European standards), made out of third-grade spoilt corn, normally a waste product left to rot by farmers.
With absolutely no EPI-additives or micro-plastics, our corn-based bags fully degrade and decompose in 3-12 months (depending on the disposal conditions), nourishing the earth instead of polluting it.
Their composition allows the bags to break down naturally and be consumed as food by microorganisms. Whether the bag of poop is thrown into a trash can or a bin dedicated to composting, it will naturally return to the earth within a few months.

How To Dispose Of The Used Bags Correctly:
To get the best results from our compostable plant-based poop bags, you have to dispose of them correctly. Here are a few options you can try:
- Home composting – Bury it. This option works best if you live in a rural area with space away from the house. Waste should be buried at least five inches underground, away from vegetable gardens and water sources. Look up DIY pet waste composting for more tips.
- Industrial composting – Transport it to an industrial composting facility near you that accepts pet waste. Because our bags are compostable and certified in Europe, they will be accepted in most facilities.
- General waste bins – Bag it and bit it! If you can’t compost it, you can also throw the used poo bags in your general waste bins to be taken to the local landfills, where the bags will decompose in 12 months.

These used to be the gold standard of dog poo bags. I love that they are compostable and massive. On my recent purchase I haven’t found them to be as good as they used to be for ease of use. I used to be able to open them by rubbing the top between my thumb and finger, now I have to pull the handles apart slightly or lick my fingers (which goes against all my instincts when it comes to anything with dog poo). The material is somehow different. The bags are brilliant once you are in, big, tie well, hold the stuff it needs to.
Still a great big bag but the ease of opening was what made it so great for me in the past. Worth the money? I put a value on not having extra plastic and so yes I would say so. These are compostable (some of the biodegradable bags have plastic in them, so I always look for compostable).

The bags are large which is great for covering your entire hand when picking up, also these are made from compostable materials not just recycled plastic like other brands. These poo bags are made of corn starch, so they are very 100% biodegradable. They are also very soft, so I can pop a couple up my sleeve.
Please do careful of other “Green” bags that looks ok similar but they aren’t made of cornstarch.
Planet friendly Poop Sacks –
First up, my pup is a smallish cockerpoo so his outputs are not huge but they are plentiful so I liked the idea of a 3 month supply per box. Compostable bags are important to me because of how many I get through so it’s good to see another brand on the market. These ones seem a little thinner than my usual brand but I have had no splits and they seem sturdy enough. I like the fact that they have tie handles and are unmissably bright green. They come folded up in a box with a perforated panel so you just pull out what you need, although I do seem to end up pulling more than a few. This also means that it is awkward if you want to put them in a poo bag dispenser but then again there is no leftover inner tube to lose under the table or collect in your pockets. Summary, great environmentally conscious poop containing product from a UK company.

Fit for purpose and compostable –
I recently ordered these for the second time because I find they work well for us and I’m very happy to know they are compostable – i.e. NO microplastics left in the environment. As other reviewers have mentioned, it would be great if these could be manufactured in Europe rather than China where they are currently made, but apparently there are currently few or no manufacturers “who can produce 100% plant-based bags that are 100% plastic-free”. Fingers crossed that Alpha Pets might solve this problem in future.
